1 Androstenediol or 1AD is an anabolic prohormone chemically related to 5-alpha-androstanediol. In your body, 1AD prohormone is converted into 1 testosterone, which is known as a double bond isomer of testosterone that is described as being much milder than testosterone, both estrogenically and androgenically.

This would make 1-testosterone a non-aromatizing hormone, that is androgenically milder than DHT. So realistically, what you can expect from the use of it is moderate to good gains, which can probably be enhanced with the addition of an aromatizing prohormone.

1 Androstenediol Brief History

1 Androstenediol was discovered in the 1940s and a metabolic study was published in 1972. Aside from these studies, 1-AD received little attention until recently.

In the 1990s, governments worldwide tried to abolish people’s access to anabolic steroids by instituting oppressive style laws, thereby creating not only a successful black market, but also a strong reason to find alternative muscle building enhancers.

This led to the rediscovery of 1-Androstenediol and 1-Testosterone by chemist Patrick Arnold. Which is a good thing because the compounds used in 1 AD and 1Test were not covered by existing anti-steroid laws in some countries.

1AD is an orally active, naturally occurring prohormone. This means that it is not foreign to your body. The oral bioavailability appears to be higher than most anabolic prohormones, but that has not yet been determined.

The good thing about 1AD is that does not convert to estrogens in your body so it won't cause breast enlargement or estrogen related water retention. Therefore, your body will maintain a lean, hard look. It is also non-toxic with short-term use. However, long-term studies have not yet been conducted.

Conversion to DHT is low or zero. As a result, it is not likely to cause acne, hair loss, or body hair growth. While 1-testosterone can convert to DHT through an uncommon pathway, the amount of that conversion is unknown.

It is converted to 1-testosterone in the liver. This conversion could be called activation, but 1AD has anabolic action of its own. Furthermore, the inactivation of 1AD and 1Test prior to their elimination from the body, takes place in the liver as well.

1-AD can be extremely useful for cutting up, and this is probably its most valuable use. While it will not convey any direct fat burning effects like those that you would get from a thermogenics, it can help in losing fat indirectly. 1-AD can minimize the loss of lean body mass while dieting, and assist in the maintenance of a high metabolic rate.

While all prohormones can help maintain lean body mass, most of them also convert to estrogens. Estrogens promote fat gain and therefore their increase is counterproductive while dieting. 1AD does not raise estrogen levels making it an outstanding prohormone of choice for cutting up.
